Spring Break 2011

Alden and I headed out of town ~
for Spring Break.

 Um yes.....to the beach.
For some rest and  time together.

and to see some special people ~
we visited with my sister Kim (who had foot surgery)
and my niece Heather on the way down.

Spring has really shown itself ~ the azaleas at Kim's house.  Beautiful!!!!!
We ran right into the tornadoes in NC

You can't quite see this ~ but this is an overpass where people had parked...
and were running up under to be protected.
We wanted to join them....but there was NO room.
We watched the skies grow "angry"....
and listented to the radio
which finally said "EMERGENCY....tornadoes touching down".

We got off the interstate at the next exit ~ and tried to get under a gas station awning...
but it was PACKED with cars.  We got as close as we could....and then I jumped out.....
in the golf ball sized hail that was coming down ~
wow, did it HURT.  The clerk in the quick stop let us all in.
She said we could go in the cooler if needed.
The power went down ~ we prayed and waited.
Very scary indeed.
Once things "settled" we got back on the interstate ~
we were only 20 miles from our first destination.
and .......
about 1/2 mile away you could see where the tornado went RIGHT across the interstate.
Roofs off, debris everywhere, power poles down, transformers in the road.
Police cars, ambulances, fire trucks everywhere.  Sirens were heard for hours.

Power was out ~ no traffic signals, so police were directing traffic.
Many roads were closed.
We made sure our family was ok ~

We were thankful everyone was ok ~
and were glad to make it down to our "retreat".
We ate some good food ~ grits.
 fried okra.....and much more.  :)
Our little house was wonderful ~
and ohhhhh, did we get some good rest.

 Enjoying the beautiful, peaceful area.

 The moon coming up ~
 Dinner out ~ for seafood.
and back to the beach we would go ~

We read ~ we love to read!!!!

 Enjoyed each other ~
 :)

 Peace ~

 sunsets ~

 We started back home ~
visiting with Aunt Louise again.  We enjoyed lunch together.
and to the cemetery to see her late husband's grave
 arranging some flowers

Praying together ~ and reminiscing about her wonderful husband, Alden's Uncle Cecil.
Drove by Peaden's....but didn't eat this time.

Enjoyed Louise's beautiful yard ~
Loved being at Louise's house ~ her flowers are beautiful.
She enjoyed the Easter lily we brought her
 Cecil's favorite rose bush
What a wonderful aroma it has!
We headed over to Ken and Lynne's to say a quick hello

 Alden and his brother Ken
Alden with nephews ~
Alden and Kenneth

Then.....got back on the road to head home.  We had hoped to eat dinner with my sister Susan, Richard, Kim and Heather, but we got there too late.  We'll do that soon.
The next day we enjoyed Easter ~ had a wonderful time at our church celebrating
our Risen Lord and what that means to us.

We are so thankful for our time away ~
we are rested and refreshed.
