Humor ~ in the midst

This was GREAT ~ the weatherman giving his weather report....with some humor.
There is a snow storm in the southern states...and he made sure to say "it is not coming here" "stay away".
Love it!!!!!!!!!
Hannah was due to come here last night after work....but they called a "snow emergency" meaning nobody already at work can leave. So she slept there last night and was released a bit a ago to go home (to her house).
This is what awaited her here....but she will only get the picture now by email. :)
Happy shoveling everyone!

Second Storm Over ~ Digging Out

We woke up to just a few inches of snow, but the WIND was wild ~ a true blizzard!
We waited until the snow stopped (around 2:30 p.m.) before we headed out to shovel once again. It is much colder this go round. We got about 7" of snow. School is cancelled for the rest of the week ~ yahoo!!!! Alden, Steve and I hunkered down today ~ enjoyed movies, cleaning out pantries and closets, and just enjoying each other. We are appreciating the slower days for sure. Very thankful once again that we have power ~ some are not so blessed and we appreciate that.

Tuesday Greetings ~ New Storm has Arrived

Well, the DC area has had a 3 day repieve from the weekend snow storm........we have shoveled, and shoveled and shoveled some more. The 2nd snow storm is underway........
Expected snowfall ~ with lots of wind this time Just a few minutes ago ~ the snow is falling and beginning to stick
this is our deck this afternoon ~ snow from the 1st storm
heavy laden trees ~ beautiful blue sky
the deck.....picnic table and grill
Can you see the snow up to the bottom of the grandkid swing in the back yard?
Bulldozers working to open up the entrance to our neighborhood
It is open.....now with two mountains of snow on either side. Makes it tough to get out on Rolling Road (main road out of our subdivision).
Alden and I walked up to the coffee shop and got a hot chocolate the Sunday after the 1st storm
It is just about too much to take in ~ these two storms coming back to back. It is life, and we just go with the flow. We love snow storms and the way it makes us slow down ~ as few things will do that for this area (maybe a sniper?). We are warm and safe in our house ~ and we are thankful.
Alden went to work today for the 1st time all week. Dorian is out of school at least through Wednesday. I would imagine we will be out all week.
Alden and I have been sick and are not well yet ~ we are ready to be feeling better!
For now ~ we take in the powerful snowstorm.

This boy ~ he is quiet, yet full of life. He loves numbers, reading, sports, legos, tacos, keeping track of the time, his friends, his family, to do his best and.....he loves others. His smile will simply warm your heart.

We are so very proud of you Joshua! Oh how we love this boy!

Blizzard Ends ~ Digging Out

Wow ~ and WOW again. The Blizzard of 2010 will certainly stay in our minds for a lifetime! It continued to snow ALL day today ~ ending at 5:00 p.m. We have 25" at our house. We are thankful to be safe and warm in our house ~ with power. Many people are not so fortunate.
We shoveled and shoveled and shoveled some more. It is supposed to get VERY cold tonight and wanted to get it shoveled before it turned to ICE. As we said, a neighbor bought a snow blower just this week and we are so thankful!
Greetings from our house ~ as the sun was setting tonight. What a gorgeous sight after two days of constant snow fall! As the snow stopped and the sky cleared heavy laden trees this morning as Alden started our driveway
One of the toughest parts is the area where the snow plow pushes the snow into your driveway area.....oh such heavy, icy snow
The entrance to our neighborhood off the main road was not plowed. Or I guess you could say.....they put up a steep wall with the plow (good grief!)
Alden standing on the main road.....looking toward our road (Parliament)
Steve and I standing on Parliament
Before I started shoveling! Alden and I have both had fevers and a terrible cough this week, but late last night my fever broke. Yahoo....we are on the mend.
breakfast in the sunroom watching it snow
snowing
Our b'ball hoop was full of snow
We thought it was FULL of snow, but really it was hollow!
Steve's car buried
slowly unburying it
Yay ~ it is on the driveway safe and sound (see the piles of snow!)
Car safe
had to make some cookies once we were inside
yum
Goodnight from the Smiths ~
expected temps for tonight
Many have asked: Hannah is stuck at work. She worked yesterday and today ~ they are in a "snow emergency" which means nobody leaves. She packed a bag and will sleep there. She said there is a fun bunch of people working ~ a planned snowball fight and walk at 7:30 p.m. Isn't that GREAT!
